The Centre awards a Certificate in Supervision to those who have completed the following three-day modules, the Core, the Therapeutic and the Advanced and at least one from the special interest courses. The courses can be done consecutively in one location or at different locations. However it is be undertaken in not less than a year to allow time for integrating the learning. In addition ten hours of supervision on supervision practice need to be completed with either one of the Centre staff or a senior supervisor. This supervision should cover fifty hours of supervision practice. The certificate is based on peer, supervisee and self assessment, and two tutorial sessions with one of the Centre staff, the tutor to be decided on the core course where possible.
The certificate is designed in such a way that students may either: | 1. | Undertake the course in one year. | | 2. | Undertake the course in a mixture of venues or in one venue. | | 3. | Undertake the course over a longer period of time than a year in order to integrate the learning and provide the possibility of undertaking a module when it seems most timely for the student’s learning. |
The training is designed to allow maximum flexibility for individual participants. The course consists of four modules, supervision and tutorials as follows: Three modules: the Core, the Therapeutic and the Advanced. One of the Special Interest Modules – Working with Difference; Group Supervision and Supervision in Teams and Organisations. Ten hours of Supervision on supervision with a senior practitioner of their choice covering 50 hours of supervision practice. Is in regular ongoing supervision. Initial Tutorial
The first tutorial is to be undertaken either after the Core or the Therapeutic module. In this tutorial the student will review their learning, decide their learning objectives, module option and how they are going to recruit supervisees.
Steps towards the Self, Peer and Tutor assessment process | 1. | At the second tutorial the participant reflects on their learning. This includes the next steps in their development and the decision regarding whom they will ask to take part in their assessment process. | | 2. | Students complete the questionnaire for themselves before giving it to others to complete | | 3. | Students give blank questionnaires to two supervisees (or, if it is group supervision, to the group members), as well as to their supervisor and to a colleague. | | 4. | At the next convenient session each person uses the questionnaire as a starting point for a dialogue to review their supervisory relationship. It is imagined that the process will contribute to their supervision rather than be an additional task. | | 5. | When this process is complete the participant will review the experience with the tutor at the third tutorial. | | 6. | The length of the self and peer assessment process is left to the participant although it is imagined that it will not take place in less than three months but if the assessment process takes longer than two years it may require another tutorial. | | 7. | The four modules and certificate process can take place in one year but where possible participants have found it advantageous to take longer to allow for integration of the training and the development of the supervisor. Although it is good to undertake this process over more than one year, we recommend that it takes no longer than 4 years. |
We intend the certificate process to be one of self empowerment in which the participant endorses themselves as a supervisor with the support and challenge of their supervisees, peers, supervisor and tutors.
