The Centre has been providing supervision training both as open and bespoke courses for organisations across the helping professions since 1979.  These include social services departments, hospitals, drug and alcohol treatment centres, clinical psychology departments, clergy, Relate, schools, counselling and psychotherapy organisations.

The Centre staff have published widely in the field including Supervision in the Helping Professions (3rd edition 2006) by Peter Hawkins and Robin Shohet.  It is still an Open University best seller and has been translated into Czech and Greek.  The courses have now been run in a number of countries including New Zealand, Ireland and South Africa.

The rich mixture of participants with different backgrounds and orientations that attend the courses helps to build an environment that challenges assumptions as well as providing a supportive community for learning.  We introduced the supervision certificate eight years ago and are now delighted to be combining with Bath Consultancy Group to provide a certificate for supervisors of mentors, coaches and consultants (see following page).

Our courses and our work developed out of our passion for wanting our own and other people’s work places to be sources of nourishment, support, ongoing learning and enjoyment.  Research has shown that meaningful work is a major contribution to a person’s well-being.  We see supervision as a very important element in this.  The Centre has expanded the number of courses available from the original Core course.  All reflect our basic commitment to helping to create a learning environment for individuals, teams and organisations.
